Today I finally reached another milestone in completing what, I hope, will be the last major edit of my first book, The Shadow of the Past.
When I decided to bite the bullet and publish the book on Amazon, I had just started another major revision of the work. I would have liked to have completed it but in order to fulfill the promise I made to my mother, and to myself, of publishing by 30 (technically about a week after). I have no regrets on the decision and I am pleased with the feedback I have gotten but it feels good to be done with such a major edit. I had meant to finish some months ago, but procrastination is a thing and life gets busy sometimes.
Like Hercules, however, the labor is not yet completed. I still have to make another pass through the book looking solely for grammar and spelling mistakes (of which, I am a little ashamed to say, there were far to many in the published version) and then format the work to appear somewhat more appealing in both paperback and Kindle.
With a little luck, both processes will not take nearly so long and I will have Version 2.0 up on Amazon in the next few months and who knows, I might even do a little paid marketing for (and commission and artist for a better cover). What I am looking forward to is finally putting this project to bed and finally picking back up with ‘And the Sun Burned Red’, my second book which I about half rough drafted almost six years ago while avoiding work on my first book.
If anyone is interested in checking out my book, Version 1.0, the link is below. The edit I just finished has not changed anything of critical substance, just cleaned some stuff up, added a little depth, and fleshed out some ideas and conversations. Any feedback is, as always, greatly appreciated.
