Good Evening, welcome to the latest in my series of using a daily writing prompt to spend 10-15 minutes getting some practice in (although I’ve been averaging 40-50 minutes these last few days, I get into the ideas). Please leave your feedback and your own responses to the prompt.

Luna Lightwing flittered to a stop atop a red mum that was in a pot just outside of the human front door. Her wings, in the traditional lime-green of the Luna Moth, flitted gently. She had a tiara of flowers, a green dress and a mischievous look in her face and eyes. Humans never noticed at all, however. She was growing impatient, but she had waited longer for less benefit.

After what felt like an eternity of waiting, a slammed car door and footsteps told her that the owner of the house had returned. Luna flitted over to land on the young man’s backpack, long enough to get inside the house, before flitting off to some out of the way plant, of which there was a number of them. It had been far too long, although in reality just a day or two, since she had caused a little mayhem, and she was determined to enjoy it.

Over the course of the next several hours, the inhabitants of the house met with all manner of strange occurrences and accidents. The father accidentally splashed himself a little hot water, the mother stubbed her toe no less than three times, one of the children ripped a favorite shirt and the other closed a file that they swore was saved but it was nowhere to be found on his computer.

Twice the family noticed the moth flying around their house but did little about it and Luna was quick to hide. When letting the dogs outside for the final time of the night, Luna flitted back out into nature. After flying down an alley, a young woman of petite build and statue, emerged from the other side. She had a dress of green and what looked like moth’s wings tattooed on her back. She strolled off into the night, looking for another group of humans to visit her anger upon.

Once, long ago, Luna had been one of the fair folk tasked with protecting the flowers from the over-encroaching race of humans. Her specialty was to visit misfortune on those who damaged or disrespected plants, but as the world of men came to dominate and much of that which was magically hid itself away. It had been a tough decision, not joining the other Fairies in their realm, now largely cut off from the human world, but who would stand up for the flowers if she left, so she stayed.

She had continued her task for more than a thousand years since then, standing up for her flowers from everything from humans who allowed their pets tear up flowers, all the way to ones who were incautious with their use of herbicide, like the family she had just visited.

It was a lonely life, to be sure, but her work gave her satisfaction. Besides, alluring and bewitching humans was not a difficult task. She did just that sometimes to keep her old skills sharp and to have some fun and just as often out of a sense of loneliness. She averaged about one serious relationship per decade, although a couple lasted longer. It had been nearly five years since her previous partner had grown tired of her fickle attitude and tendency to work at odd hours.

Maybe. . .no, it wasn’t time yet, and besides she had work to do. As she returned to her apartment, she had come across an intoxicated man who was using a stick to walk around and swat the top parts of flowers off. Here he was, her next victim, someone so careless about their environment to destroy it without even thinking. As she watched the man from a distance, she smiled to herself, this was going to be a fun night.

I hope that you enjoyed! I would love to read your response to this prompt as well and also what you think of what I wrote!

I hope you all have a wonderful day, get the chance to do or experience something creative, and I’ll catch you on the next one.
