Prompt: The Weaver’s Loom: A loom that can weave fate itself has been discovered. Who controls it, and to what end?

It had been a hundred years since the fall of The Tyranny of the Loom, eighty since the Loom was last seen, fifty-three since the Wars of the Loom, which had devastated Corvella, had ended, and almost twenty since the Grand Quest had been called. The Terra was, at last, beginning to heal itself.

The Loom of Woven Fates, as it was properly called, was the last and greatest work of Witch-Queen Heralla Belnaba, who weaved her very life into the machine in order to complete it. At first, it was a thing of curiosity. Then, her grand-daughter, Witch-Queen Vetalla Belnaba, discovered that with the Loom, it was possible to weave fate itself across all of Corvella. The Belnaba clan used it to better the whole Terra, but such power often attracts unwanted attention.

Nearly two hundred years after the Loom’s completion, and Belnaba clan was wiped out in the Night of Silver Daggers, their lands of Gran Belna were razed, and the Loom seized by Jecaron, the Silver Sorcerer, Most High Tyrant of Trellana. Thus became The Tyranny of the Loom. Jecaron used the loom to render himself immortal and bring all of Corvella under his control, and that last for 296 years.

Aided by allies of The Dragon King, the Star-Crossed Rebellion, a name that had started off as something of a morbid joke, rose up against Jecaron and his rule with the Silver Sorcerer intercepted, defeated, and imprisoned by The Circle of Nine. The Loom was claimed to be destroyed and Corvella welcome The Piece of the Nine, which would not even last a decade.

One of the Nine, who and for what reasons remains one of many unknowns from the period, had hidden the Loom away to study and when this was discovered, the Circle fractured, and with it the piece and the many realms, at first into alliances, and then into brutal, everyone for themselves, fighting that ripped the world apart for nearly half a century, even though the Loom had disappeared, after changing hands half a dozen times, a little over a decade in.

Once the competing realms, nations, and competing mages has exhausted themselves, Grand Quests were called every few years by Gerivan, the strongest nation to emerge from the wars, offering great reward for anyone who found the Loom and brought it to their ruler, but other than angering those beyond their borders, causing three wars, and nearly doing so half a dozen other times, nothing came of it. Eventually, with the drain on resources from the Quests and various wars, even Mage-Prince Delvar finally gave up.

What no one knew, was that the fighting over the Loom had broken the hold that Jecaron had placed on it, and animated as it was by the mind and will of its creator, woven into it along with her life, and the Loom had hidden itself away. As Corvella was, at last, returning to normal, the long forgotten, and lost, prison of Jecaron has at last been discovered by his secret acolytes and they have begun chipping away at both the practical, and magical, prison. The Loom, knowing that there is some small part of Jecaron’s will and power within it from the Tyrants long hold and use of it and thus able to be found by him, has relocated itself to a small in one of the secluded, and peaceful, valleys of Belna where a young woman, descendant of the only survivor of the Belnaba clan who had hidden herself from Jecaron, just might be the only chance of preventing Jecaron’s return and a second Tyranny.

Another fun writing exercise and one that I have set within the same Universe as my other fantasy stories. I wrote it as a brief history and summary instead of a narrative, and that has made intrigued enough that this might be included, in some form or another, or referenced at least, in later stories.

Hope you enjoyed and that you are having a wonderful day and get to do, or experience, something creative.
