Tanara took Wendon by the shoulders and smiled, “thank you for this, Wendon. I wish you would go with us, but I am glad you found a place you feel comfortable and I appreciate the help you’ve been.”

Wendon smiled back, but after a moment said, “right, lets go find that ancient volume you are seeking before anyone works out that you are here. Maelith, you had better go slightly ahead. I know the path to it, but there will be few, if any, sources of light so late at night, and you have far better night vision than I do.”

As they Maelith moved to the door an carefully opened it to look around the corridor, Wendon muttered to himself and there was another faint flash from the walls as he removed the enchantment to mute their talk. No one was about but they moved quietly and stuck to the shadows as much as possible. Maelith led the way with Wendon close behind, occasionally pointing out turns, and Tanara close behind as well.

They had to stop a few times as they thought they heard something, but it took only a little while to reach the area of the archived that were several floors down from Wendon’s room. They came at last to a small room that contained small alcoves in the wall, each holding scrolls of extremely age. All had been enchanted to ward off the advance of years, but there was little that even the strongest of spells could do of documents of such great age. The room was used for the archivists to transcribe the older papers an scrolls to be stored elsewhere in the archive.

Wendon bad them stand back from the alcoves and pulled out specially made and enchanted gloves to allow the ancient works to be handled without damaging their now quite fragile material. Two lighting crystals were put onto a low light on either side of the room before he started, and it took Wendon about five minutes of careful inspection to find a small collection of papers that were so old that they were a deep brown and seemed on the edge of crumbling to dust. Wendon carried them with care to one of the tables and delicately slid through them.

I hope you all have a wonderful day and year, get the chance to do or experience something creative, and I’ll catch you on the next one!
